Six Days of Foucault IV: Kant and Foucault on Enlightenment

The first seminar collected in The Government of Self and Others begins with the discussion of a 1780s essay by Kant that is now generally referred to as “An Answer to the Question: ‘What is Enlightenment?'”; Foucault would return to this piece in a number of essays composed around this time period. Read Kant’s original piece, and the most famous of these essays by Foucault (“What is Enlightenment?“) for the full background.
